Florence welcomes new utilities director

Florence has appointed a new utilities director.

Jonathan Tuomey, who started on the job on June 30, brings nearly two decades of public works and utilities experience to the position, most recently serving as utility operations manager for the city of Elmhurst, Illinois.

“We’re excited to welcome Jonathan to Florence,” Town Manager Bruce Walls stated in a press release. “His extensive experience in managing complex utility systems, paired with his passion for leadership and service, will make him a tremendous asset to our community. We look forward to the expertise and forward-thinking vision he brings to this department.”

In his role with Elmhurst, Tuomey oversaw a 20-million-gallon-per-day wastewater treatment plant, managed capital improvement projects and supervised a wide range of utility operations including lift stations, stormwater infrastructure and water production systems.

Florence’s utilities department is responsible for providing safe, reliable water and wastewater services to residents. This includes managing five active well sites that produce approximately 1.4 million gallons of water daily and operating two wastewater treatment plants that support groundwater recharge, the release continued.
