Florence mayor, 2 council member spots appear headed for runoff election

Posted

Florence's mayor appears headed to a runoff election in November as she looks to retain her seat on the Town Council.

With all seven precincts in Florence reporting, Tara Walter leads the mayoral primary with 1,070 votes (46.95%), with Kyle A. Larsen second with 809 votes (35.5%). If a candidate does not have over 50% of the vote once ballots are officially canvassed, the top 2 candidates move on to the Nov. 3 General Election.

A bevy of candidates are also vying for three council member spots on the Town Council.

Currently, Kristen Larsen (1,173 votes), Arthur "Snake" Neal (829 votes), Johnie Mendoza (759 votes), Bill Tanner (756 votes) and Vallarie Woolridge (710 votes) have the most votes in the race.

Ms. Larsen appears primed to retain her spot on the council, as she is above the current 971 vote requirement for election. The others would compete for the remaining two spots in the General Election if nothing changes.
