The Florence Friends of Kids First Foundation will be holding its golf tournament on Friday May 6 to raise money for scholarships.
The foundation is seeking sponsorships ranging from $800-$5,000 each. The event benefits schools in the Florence Unified School District, as well as the Florence Friends of Kids First Foundation.
According to its website, the foundation’s mission is to” cultivate excellence in every student through advanced creative solutions, ensuring equity and providing opportunities that challenge all students to perform at their highest potential.”
The inaugural Showdown on Main Street-Pitmaster Challenge last year raised thousands of dollars for senior student scholarships. Florence Unified School District Superintendent Chris Knutsen said the Pitmaster Challenge raised $51,000.
Last spring’s golf tournament raised $35,000.
The eventual goal of the Pitmaster Challenge and the golf tournament is to raise $100,000 a year through corporate, government or individual sponsors.
Knustsen said, $70,000 will go to scholarships. The balance will go toward raising teacher morale and buying needed classroom materials.
The Florence Friends of Kids First Foundation Golf Tournament takes place Friday May 6, with a 7 a.m. registration and an 8 a.m. start. The tournament will be held at the Johnson Ranch Golf Course Golf Club at Johnson Ranch, 30761 W. Golf Club Drive, San Tan Valley.
The public can register for the event or buy a sponsorship online Florence Friends of Kids First Foundation.
