The Peoria Independent is hosting its first Peoria Hometown Heroes Awards event to salute the Heroes who make the community a special place.
Every month, Peoria News Editor Philip Haldiman pens a narrative around a deserving winner a part of the Peoria community. Dillon’s Kansas City BBQ owners have generously sponsored the lunch portion of the event.
“We are forever grateful for our event sponsors as part of our dual mission at Independent Newsmedia is to support our local business community,” said Publisher Charlene Bisson. “We feel blessed to host this signature community event in partnership with local business operators like Dillon’s.”
Independent Newsmedia, publisher of 14 community newspapers, Sun Life Magazine and YourValley.net, presents the Peoria Hometown Heroes Awards celebration from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 24 at the Rio Vista Recreation Center, 8866 W. Thunderbird Road in Peoria. The cost is $30 for a single and $50 per couple.
For Independent Newsmedia Advertising Director Barb Wandling nothing says community like a local event hosted at a landmark community center.
“Attendees, honorees, and sponsors alike can expect a local event with something not many have: Authenticity,” she said. “Each of those honorees is true local heroes who deserve to be recognized. Here at Independent Newsmedia, we are everything local and there is nothing more local than community members.”
Each month, Independent Newsmedia featured a Hometown Hero in the Peoria Independent designed to recognize the people and businesses for local achievements and distinguished contributions to the community.
At the February event, each of the past year’s recipients will be awarded a commemorative award during the community luncheon, which is hosted by Bisson.
