Safin: Bravo to you!

Thank you from me and the staff at the Southwest Valley Chamber of Commerce! We’re grateful you and our community adjusted to the most unusual world-changing event in our lifetime. We’ve seen an outpouring of camaraderie, support, goodwill and the occasional joke.

To paraphrase Sister Sledge, we are comm-un-ity!

The novel coronavirus has created a situation that is completely unknown by everyone, including government and health officials.

Maybe you have a family. Maybe you discovered new things about each other with the extra time together. “New,” in my mind, means “good.”

An equal shout-out to the single people! All of us have a great life as a “party of one,” but had to go with the flow of the new normal. I do miss Sunday breakfast with friends.

There are good people doing good and great things in our community. Charities and nonprofits continue helping others and many businesses are doing something to serve the community. You can find what’s open at southwestvalleychamber.org/supportlocal.

Thank you to everyone who submitted their information. Every business and nonprofit is encouraged to post their information for free on the Support Local hub.

You’ll also find information about the coronavirus and relief programs at southwestvalleychamber.org/covid19. Both webpages are frequently updated.

My advice to you and everyone: Stay positive. A good attitude is the first step toward avoiding worry and fear, which can be debilitating.

It’s easier said than done for some people, especially when concerned about money, supplies and a highly contagious virus.

A positive attitude is showing hope. We need hope and each other. Our community is strong and amazing because of us.

Look out for each other; keep in touch with family and friends. Together, we’ll make sure it’s always a great day in the Southwest Valley.

Editor’s note: John Safin is president/CEO of the Southwest Valley Chamber of Commerce.
