The city of Goodyear announced Tuesday, March 31 it will close city buildings to the public beginning Wednesday in accordance with Gov. Doug Ducey’s statewide stay-at-home order to slow the spread of COVID-19.

“We are committed to doing our part in Goodyear,” Mayor Georgia Lord stated in a press release Tuesday. “These are unprecedented times. Our community is resilient, and I am confident our residents will do what is needed to stop the spread of this virus.”

The public may still do business with the city online, and may schedule in-person appointments with city staff on a case-by-case basis. The Goodyear Municipal Court will remain open with certain limitations.

Open areas at city parks will include restrooms and drinking fountains, during regular hours from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. Areas that will close include playgrounds, the skate park, dog parks, and recreation areas including basketball, volleyball, pickleball, tennis courts and ballfields.

Park rangers and staff will continue to monitor areas and educate patrons on the importance of complying with the order, the release stated.

While city buildings will be closed to the public, staff will continue to work behind the scenes through the use of technology to maintain essential city services, the release stated.
