Judith, briefly of New Ulm, MN, passed away peacefully at home on September 5, 2019 at the age of 85, after several years with Alzheimer’s and recovering from hip surgery.

She is survived by her husband, Thomas; her children, Douglas of New Ulm, Rebecca of Glendale, AZ, and Bradley (Regina) of Maple Grove, MN; her grandchildren, Tommy and Matthew; she also leaves one sister, Tania Banks of Richmond, VA; as well as many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Donald and Charlotte Taylor of Dubuque, IA, and her brother, Douglas, of Dubuque. Judy was born at home in Dubuque, delivered by Dr. Ward, later president of the AMA. Judy graduated from UNI (University of Northern Iowa) with a double major of elementary education and speech therapy.

She traveled widely, teaching second and third grades for the Air Force in Puerto Rico, Germany, and England. On vacations, she would sightsee to exotic destinations like Cairo and the Holy Land.

She returned to the U.S. to teach in Los Alamos, NM, where she met her husband Tom. She and Tom raised their children in upstate New York before moving to Georgia where she taught 2nd grade in Peachtree Georgia until they retired to Sun City West, AZ.

Judy was very musical. While working in Puerto Rico, Judy sang with the Messiah Choir, traveling to sing in Haiti and nearby islands. She played the piano and viola, and sang with the Westernaire’s Chorus and the choir at Desert Palms Presbyterian Church in Sun City West, AZ. She enjoyed golf, skiing (Judy and Tom’s first date was skiing at Santa Fe Ski Area), and bridge.

Judy will be greatly missed. The aides who helped her in her final months routinely commented that her happy presence “made their day”.

A memorial service and celebration of her life will be held on November 16, 2019, at 2:00 P.M., at Desert Palms Presbyterian Church in Sun City West, AZ. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association: P.O. Box 96011, Washington D.C. 20890-601.
