A man shot himself early Wednesday morning in front of Chandler police who later found his pregnant wife dead inside a home in the 3900 block of West Monterey Street, authorities said.
The man has been identified as Kevin Holmberg, 38. The victim was his wife, Katherine Holmberg, 41, police said. She was pregnant, and her unborn child also died in the shooting, police said.
At about 1 a.m. May 31, the Chandler Police Department received 911 calls from a man who seemed intoxicated. He was uncooperative and refused to provide his address in, police said.
Officers responded, searched the property but did not find anyone needing emergency assistance.
Soon after, police said, information was received indicating a woman at the home might be in danger. The man was identified by family members who also called 911 to report an “unknown incident” taking place within the apartment, police said.
Officers surrounded the house about 2 a.m., and the man came out with a gun.
“Within a few minutes, he fatally shot himself while still outside and in view of the officers,” police said in a release.
Officers entered the home and found the woman dead from gunshot wound, which police said they believe was caused by her husband.
