Jazz music in A.J. Chandler Park April 3-6

The month begins with the Chandler Jazz Festival, April 3-6, featuring local and national artists playing everything from traditional to fusion to smooth jazz. Bands will play throughout Downtown Chandler during all four days of the festival.
Chandler celebrates Jazz Appreciation Month every April with musical performances.
The month begins with the Chandler Jazz Festival, April 3-6, featuring local and national artists playing everything from traditional to fusion to smooth jazz. Bands will play throughout Downtown Chandler during all four days of the festival.
The locations for sidewalk band performances are all within walking distance and are adjacent to downtown shops and restaurants.
On Saturday, April 5, live music from jazz musicians will continue into the evening hours on the main stage of Dr. A.J. Chandler Park, 178 E. Commonwealth Ave., east of Arizona Avenue.
Here's a full schedule:
Thursday, April 3: Sidewalk bands from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Friday, April 4: Sidewalk bands from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Saturday, April 5: Sidewalk bands from 2 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Main stage acts on Saturday, April 5:
5 p.m.: The Corcoran Holt Quintet
6:30 p.m.: Typhanie Monique
8:00 p.m.: Lakecia Benjamin
The Pete Pancrazi Duo with Todd Johnson will lend their talents as the festival band, playing at the secondary stage before and between sets at 4:30, 6, 7:30 and 9:15 p.m. on April 5.
Sunday, April 6: Sidewalk bands from 11 a.m.-1 p.m.
Holt began playing Djembe and other West African percussion at age 4 and upright bass at age 10. He also attended the Duke Ellington School of the Arts in Washington, D.C.
Monique is a native of Chicago and a recent resident of Arizona. She is a bandleader, songwriter, vocalist and educator who has had an influence on the jazz scene, according to a news release. A native of Washington Heights, Lakecia Benjamin was voted the 2020 Downbeat Critics Poll "Rising Star Alto Saxophonist and Up and Coming Artist of the Year" by the Jazz Journalists Association.
Benjamin is a dynamic saxophonist who fuses jazz, hip hop and soul and has shared the stage with Stevie Wonder, Alicia Keys and The Roots.
On Saturday night at the Main Stage, food and non-alcoholic beverages will be available for purchase. Guests can bring their own blankets and lawn chairs on Saturday, as well as sealed bottled water and snacks. Alcohol is prohibited.
The festival and Jazz Appreciation Month is presented by the City of Chandler, Downtown Chandler Community Partnership, Chandler Public Library, Chandler Recreation, The Nash, WM and The Parks at Copper Creek.
