The backpacks were filled with supplies gathered at the Chandler Fashion Center early in the summer.
Volunteers filled the backpacks with the supplies that were donated. Children from area Boys and Girls Clubs picked out their new backpacks before remarks from leaders and an ice cream party.
A partnership between Fulton Homes and the Boys and Girls Club of the Valley started 25 years ago to help supply local students.
This year's quantity is the most the collaboration has raised to-date, providing hundreds of new backpacks to K-12 students across the Valley.
Back-to-school supplies this year are expected to cost a family on average of $586 per child, including clothes, shoes, supplies and electronics, the release states.
