Having read the latest June edition of the Chandler Independent, I had to laugh.
The lead article on the front page suggests that because of newly elected President Trump, the U.S. Senate falling into Republican hands and the Arizona legislature remaining under GOP control the Chandler Unified School bond failed.
The genius who wrote this story must have overlooked the fact that these political choices happened on exactly the same day as the school bond being defeated.
Regardless of what might happen in the future politically, I would suggest that this bond measure got voted down because the people are tired of public entities gouging themselves on our hard-earned money while the taxpayers are cutting their budgets just to make ends meet.
This bond measure was a 68% increase($487 million) from what was asked for last time ($290M, in 2019) but now the budget committee apparently is looking at something more reasonable ($271M).
Maybe they have learned their lesson. I know I sure learned something: that the Chandler Independent is far from nonpartisan.
