The Chandler City Council acknowledged its second annual Fair Housing Poster Contest Winners at its April 21 study session.
Aryanna B., age 9, a Sanborn Elementary third-grader, and Majda K. age 10, a fourth-grader at Conley Elementary, were recognized as this year’s winners. They took photos with Mayor Kevin Hartke, Council member Angel Encinas and city staff.
April was National Fair Housing Month, and to help educate youth about a person’s right to live where they choose and equal housing opportunities for all, Chandler’s Neighborhood Resources Department invited young artists who live in the city, who are in grades 1 through 6, to enter a poster contest.
The contest theme was “Love Your Neighbor” and all entries were to contain wording and imagery that conveys the theme. Winners were selected by a panel of city staff.
Prizes were given to the students and their families as they departed the council chamber.
