Chandler Mayor Kevin Hartke read and signed a proclamation March 24, declaring April as Valley Bike Month in Chandler.
The proclamation mentions the health and social benefits of bicycling.
The mayor and Jason Crampton, the city’s transportation planning manager, both encouraged people to attend the city’s Family Bike Ride and virtual equivalent, which were held in early April.
The city sponsored one family, the Oakesons, who Crampton said have been loyal participants in cycling events over the past decade.
Dave Oakeson, responding to Mayor Hartke’s asking what he likes about cycling, said it’s an activity that’s an exercise workout that’s also relaxing and can be social.
