Wigwam, city of Litchfield Park partner for fireworks show

Posted

The Wigwam’s annual Red, White & BOOM Independence Day celebration is off due to COVID-19 social distancing guidelines advising against large gatherings, but fireworks will light up the night sky over the resort Saturday, July 4.

The resort, 300 W. Wigwam Blvd., has partnered with the city of Litchfield Park to put on the community show for people to watch from afar, Wigwam Marketing and Events Manager Jenna Sullivan said via email June 9.

“Although we can’t physically be together this year for Fourth of July, we can all share the excitement of enjoying a fireworks show!” Ms. Sullivan said. “A fireworks show is the perfect way to celebrate Independence Day, and we are excited to do so while abiding by current state guidelines. For the safety of our community and to follow current directives of no mass gatherings, we kindly ask that you enjoy the fireworks show remotely from the comfort of your own home, guest room or car.”

Fireworks are set to launch at 9 that evening.

“Be sure to post your photos enjoying the fireworks show, so we can celebrate together virtually!” Ms. Sullivan said. “We can’t wait to see you all again at the Red, White and BOOM! event in 2021.”

Open swim replaces city’s annual Splash Bash

The city’s annual Independence Day Splash Bash at the Litchfield Park Recreation Center, 100 S. Litchfield Road, also has been canceled, but the pool will be open from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. for open swim, Litchfield Park Special Events Coordinator Tricia Kramer said.

“This is a great way for our swimmers to practice their skills and for families to spend quality time together,” Ms. Kramer said. “Individual can also use this time to get into the water for exercise and relaxation.”

Open swim admission is $3 per entry or entry with a valid Litchfield Park pool pass. Children ages 3 and younger are admitted free.

Before reopening to the public on June 1, the city announced that pool capacity will be limited to 50 people at one time. Visitors will find green Xs six feet apart underneath pool furniture for social distancing, and tables will be reserved for family use only.

Recreation center staff will wear masks and gloves, though masks will not be allowed in the pool itself.

Patrons are asked to stay home if they are experiencing cough, shortness of breath, chills and shaking, sore throat, muscle pain, headache, or loss of taste and smell.
