Mother, son hospitalized after family dog attack in Buckeye

Posted

A woman and her son were attacked and seriously injured by two of the family’s dogs Thursday afternoon, Buckeye police said.

Police received a call at about 4 p.m. Jan. 5 from the mother.

The woman, who lives near Rooks and Southern Avenue, warned officers the dogs were aggressive. She told them the animals had escaped outside and were attacking each other, according to police.

Two officers found “two large mixed-breed dogs in the neighborhood. The dogs charged both officers,” police said in a release.

“Each officer fired at least once, striking at least one of the dogs.”

Authorities said the officers tried to contain both dogs, which had injuries.

The woman and young son were taken to the hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

Maricopa County Animal Care and Control responded to the scene, officials said.
