Incumbent bows out of Litchfield elementary district race

Busy schedule led to ‘difficult decision,’ Dr. Tawnya Pfitzer says

The field of candidates vying for three open seats on the Litchfield Elementary School District Governing Board has narrowed to four.

Incumbent Dr. Tawnya Pfitzer of Buckeye, who was a write-in candidate, told Independent Newsmedia via email Monday, Aug. 31 that she will not seek reelection after all.

“My schedule is crazy and it seems that I get busier every day. I have decided not to run for reelection this year,” she wrote. “It was a very difficult decision and I have been torn for the past few months. I finally decided that my schedule just wouldn't allow me to put the time and effort in that is really required to get the job done well.”

Ms. Pfitzer is a podiatrist with Desert Canyon Foot & Ankle in Avondale. Her term, along with those of fellow incumbents Danielle Clymer, a marketing consultant from Goodyear, and Melissa Zuidema, a business owner from Litchfield Park, expires Dec. 31.

Also running are newcomers August Jeremy Hoenack, a Buckeye inventor and property manager, and write-in candidate Ryan Risselman, an electrical estimator from Goodyear.

LESD operates 11 elementary schools and five middle schools serving preschool through eighth-grade students in Avondale, Buckeye, Goodyear and Litchfield Park.

Governing board members are elected at large to four-year terms.
