Grant Extended to Buckeye Police Department

Grant extended for upgrade in traffic records system

On Monday Dec. 5, the Buckeye Police Department was granted a one-year extension on more than $60,000 in federal grant funds to enhance traffic enforcement. 

The extension allows continued access to previously awarded funds for upgrading to an efficient system for processing traffic records.

The grant awarded through the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety will pay for materials, supplies, and software needed to transition to the AZ TraCS system. 

The Traffic and Criminal Software will allow officers to quickly scan driver's licenses and vehicle registration forms instead of handwriting information from the documents.

The new system ensures officers can write electronic citations from their mobile data computer using a scanner to cut time.  AZ TraCS also saves time by allowing information to auto-populate into other forms including forms for citations, tow sheets, accident exchange and victim rights.

Some traffic enforcement measures can be time consuming and potentially impact resources needed to respond to other emergency calls and incidents.  Efficient processes and procedures can help reduce time and money while maintaining effective public safety functions to protect the community. 

The Buckeye Police Department would like to thank the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety for its continued support. These additional funds help the Buckeye Police Department combat impaired driving, reduce crashes, and keep the community safe.
