BUCKEYE POLICE DEPARTMENT
Buckeye uses state grants to enhance traffic enforcement
Posted
INDEPENDENT NEWSMEDIA
More than $87,000 in state grants will allow the Buckeye Police Department to improve road safety in the city, officials said.
One grant from the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety will be used for DUI enforcement.
Police said the $40,000 will cover overtime and other employee-related costs to boost the presence of officers on patrol to identify intoxicated drivers. A portion also will pay for an Intoxilyzer machine for detecting alcohol impairment.
A second grant for $12,500 will pay for special equipment to streamline accident investigations.
“The funds will make collision reconstruction more efficient to reduce roadway restrictions and provide more accurate information,” police officials said in a release.
Another grant totaling $35,000 will cover the purchase of radar and other equipment to help officers target areas where speeding is an issue, according to the release.
