Buckeye Library receives $22K in grants
Posted
Buckeye’s Public Library System received two separate grants totaling $22,000 to develop a collection of children’s audio books and to assist local businesses.
The funding came from the Arizona State Library, Archives and Public Records, a division of the Secretary of State.
The Buckeye Coyote Branch Library is located at 21699 W. Yuma Road, and the Downtown Library is at 310 N. 6th St.
The first grant for $18,000 will purchase VOX Books, which are audio books designed for children. These devices will read the book aloud to the child to enhance listening comprehension without having them rely on smartphones and tablets. Titles will be available in both English and Spanish.
An additional $4,000 in grant money is dedicated to business development material and information to help Buckeye residents start or grow their own business.
In 2020, the Arizona State Library received about $3.5 million under the Library Services and Technology Act, which is administered by the Institute of Museum and Library Services.
Arizona libraries received $850,000 that was awarded on a competitive basis. The remaining funds are used to support statewide services, including family literacy and reading programs, electronic databases, digital government initiatives, continuing education classes and other programs.
