Buckeye appoints new Public Works director

Posted

Buckeye has selected Bret Hodne as the city’s new Public Works Director, bringing a range of experience to lead the city’s Public Works Department.

Hodne’s career spans more than 30 years across the public sector, gaining in-depth knowledge in public administration, utility operations, citizen engagement and fiscal management.

His career with West Des Moines, Iowa, dates to 1989, when he started as an equipment operator. In 2008, Hodne accepted the role as the director of Public Works for West Des Moines, building on his prior involvement in the department.

“We are fortunate to have found Mr. Hodne to run our Public Works Department” City Manager Dan Cotterman said. "His in-depth understanding of city government will ensure that the city’s strategic goals are met and our residents continue receiving great service."

"I’m excited to lead Buckeye's Public Works Department," Hodne stated. "My time in West Des Moines provided me with the proper leadership and communication skills needed to face the challenges associated with a rapidly growing city."

Hodne holds both master's and bachelor's degrees in public administration and has an array of leadership roles and awards from the National and State chapters of the American Public Works Association. Hodne is set to assume his role in September.
