Agenda items for tonight's Buckeye P&Z meeting

BUCKEYE — The Planning and Zoning Committee are holding a meeting tonight in which two agenda items relating to rezoning will be discussed.

Today’s meeting, set for 6 p.m. at Buckeye City Hall, 530 E. Monroe Ave., features a rezoning proposal titled Lanai Living rezoning. The applicant is law firm Withey Morris PLC. They are requesting to rezone approximately 27.5 acres from planned residential and single-family homes into a multifamily residential community.

The property is at the northeast corner of Apache Road and Monroe Avenue. According to the document the plot is oddly shaped and wraps around an existing church and government building. The subject property is located within the historic downtown activity center which is already a mixed-use space.

The proposed rezone is intended to provide a new, denser housing product that brings more 24-hour activity to the area with the additional residents.
The plot is currently vacant and they propose to create one-story four-plexes, 21 two-story eight-plexes and a one-story amenity building.

Agenda item MC 85 and Rooks Road project is a request to rezone an approximate 112 acre site from a planned residential and planned community to light industrial for a future industrial park.

This application proposed that the light industrial zoning district is generally geared toward light manufacturing, warehousing, processing, storage, wholesale, distribution operations, and research and development uses, with all operations contained within an enclosed building.

According to the proposal, this rezoning will reflect on the goals and achievements of the city of Buckeye by bringing much needed employment in the area.

The site plans shows five building spaces with a combined 1.7 million sq feet of area.

The rezone would be at the southwest corner of MC 85 and Rooks Road.
