Wendy Britt selected CAC Faculty of the Year

Wendy Britt was recently named Central Arizona College Faculty of the Year.

The Faculty of the Year award recognizes faculty who have made a difference in the lives of students inside and outside the classroom. The selected faculty should be a role model for students who not only demonstrate excellence in instruction, but also leadership and a passion for helping students learn.

CAC students were invited to nominate outstanding faculty for this honor.

One nominee stated, “Professor Britt is exceptionally organized and made sure that we were always updated on what was expected of us, any course changes, etc. She also has a very good balance of being strict but caring. While it is painful to get points deducted for any assignment or skill, Professor Britt never made me feel dumb or inadequate, but instead I felt encouraged and motivated to do better. I could tell she really cared about our success.”

Another added, “I so love that although class is online, Professor Britt still lectures via Zoom in real time, it helps me stay on track and learn so much better. All exams and quizzes revolve around the lectures which I greatly appreciated. Professor Britt breaks down concepts very well and it has really made me more successful throughout this fast-paced block of nursing. She’s amazing, and I can for sure say this was my favorite block of nursing by far.”

Professor Britt entered the Air Force following high school and served as a munitions systems specialist, building bombs and missiles. After serving for six years in the Air Force, she worked for Northup aviation, Wal-Mart and Alcoa Aluminum.

When 9/11 happened, Alcoa laid off multiple employees. It was at this time that Ms. Britt decided to enroll at Central Arizona College to begin her path of becoming a third-generation nurse. Throughout the years, she has been a member of the nursing staff for Casa Grande Regional Medical Center, Banner Baywood, The Training Center, Trinity Hospice, Hurst NCLEX Review Services and Pinal Gila Community Child Services.

Ms. Britt has an associate of applied science degree in munitions systems from the Community College of the Air Force and an AAS in nursing from Central Arizona College. She has a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing and a Master of Science in nursing with a focus on leadership from Grand Canyon University.

Additional certifications Ms. Britt holds include: certified nurse educator, certified childbirth educator and cognitive behavioral therapy certificate.

Ms. Britt began teaching at CAC in fall 2008. It is her goal as a professor to help students become critical thinkers that are safe and caring. During her time at the college she has taught the specialties of obstetrical, pediatric and psychological nursing. She also serves as the advisor for Central Arizona Student Nurses’ Association. CASNA organizes the bi-annual health fair at CAC and volunteers to help at various events and activities such as the Rock and Roll Marathon, ASU Stadium Blitz and Phoenix Children’s Hospital.

When asked what advice Ms. Britt gives her students she stated, “Every time you walk into a patient room – ask for their name, birthday, and if they have any allergies. Besides that ... find your passion, there is so much to do in the field of nursing.”

Editor’s note: Angela Askey is CAC’s executive director of public relations and marketing.
