Visible house addresses required in City of Apache Junction

Posted

The City of Apache Junction adopted a new property maintenance code not quite a year ago and part of this new code focuses on missing or damaged address numbers on buildings in the city.

The code requires that buildings have approved address numbers placed in a position to be plainly legible and visible from the street or road fronting the property, according to a release.

Numbers shall contrast with their background, be in Arabic numerals or alphabetic letters. Numbers shall not be less than 4 inches in height, with a minimum stroke width of 0.5 inches.

This addition to the city's new property maintenance code helps ensure that emergency personnel and others can easily locate your property in case of an emergency, the release states.

It is also suggested that addresses be placed on the rear of properties where alleys are present to aid emergency personnel. The city is concerned with the safety of you and your family.

The city’s property maintenance code can be found in the city code Volume II, Chapter 9, Article 9-1-3(D)(6). You can find it on the city’s website at ajcity.net/code.

If you want more information or want to report a nuisance regarding the property maintenance code, contact the city’s 24-hour code violation complaint line at 480-474-5112 or go the city website at ajcity.net and click on “suggestions and concerns.”

Any questions related to the requirements for address numbers on buildings should be directed to the city’s Planning and Zoning division at 480-474-5083.
