On Monday, Nov. 9, Kerry Pardue, a Vietnam War veteran and author, will discuss his latest book, “Rice Paddy Stew and Saigon Tea,” 10-11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 9, at Hatfield Medical Group, 300 S. Phelps Drive.

Staff Sgt. “Doc” Pardue, a combat veteran, has written a few books on the American veteran experience, according to a release.

“Rice Paddy Stew and Saigon Tea” explores the impact of war that young soldiers experience. He draws on his own experiences with PTSD for his works.

The author was raised in Chicago and joined the Army during college. He enlisted and became a combat medic with the 9th Infantry in Vietnam. After his release from the Army, he worked as a police officer in suburban Illinois and in Newport News, Virginia. His career has included jobs as diverse as being a postal carrier to teaching in high schools and automobile institutes.

After his retirement in 2004, he wrote his first book, “Poems in the Keys of Life: Reflections of a Combat Medic.”

“His first book received the Gold Medal for Excellence from the Military Writers Society of America. He is working on his third book, which will be about women in the military from the Revolutionary War on through the present,” the release states.

An Arizona resident since 1981, he and his wife of 51 years live in the Chandler area. He is also an artist. You can see his work here: https://fineartamerica.com/profiles/kerry-pardue.
