Mountain View Funeral Home & Cemetery is hosting its 25th annual Memorial Day celebration at 9 a.m. Monday, May 26, in Mesa.

“We are preparing to welcome over 1,000 community members this Memorial Day,” Elisa Krcilek, vice president of Mountain View Funeral Home & Cemetery, 7900 E. Main St., said in a release. “Each flag placed, each wreath laid, each note sung is a message to our veterans and their families: You are not forgotten. Your sacrifice matters.”

The Josh Roy Band is to perform patriotic music and the ceremony is to be hosted by VFW Post No. 7968. The program is to feature messages from Lt. Col. Dana Allmond and Mike Granase as well as remarks from Apache Junction Mayor Chip Wilson and Pinal County Supervisor Jeff Serdy. The Apache Junction Mounted Rangers will open the ceremony on horseback joined by the Skyline ROTC and the Apache Junction High School Honor Guard. Sir Knight Rev. Robert King Sr. will offer a spiritual reflection.

“Freedom isn’t free,” Greg Coury, owner of Mountain View Funeral Home & Cemetery, said in the release. “This event isn’t just a ceremony — it’s a promise. A promise that this community will always honor its heroes, educate its youth about service, and stand in unity under the red, white, and blue.”

A ceremonial laying of wreaths at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier will follow, presented by a broad coalition of veterans’ organizations including American Legion Post No. 27, VFW Post Nos. 7968 and 9399, and dozens of community partners, each honoring the fallen in solemn unity. As the names, branches and sacrifices are remembered, the Legion Riders from Post No. 27 will place American flags on the 3,000 graves of every veteran resting at Mountain View.

Complimentary donuts, coffee, American flag pins, poppies, flowers, fans and water will be available throughout the morning to all attendees as a gesture of gratitude and hospitality, the release states.

Following the ceremony, guests are invited to visit Apache Junction’s VFW and American Legion posts for continued remembrance and camaraderie.
