Terry Eugene Posey

Posted

Terry, 82, of Sun City, AZ, passed away on January 15, 2020. He was born to Terry O. and Lillian B. Posey in Oklahoma City, OK on December 28, 1937. The family moved to Texas in 1938 where a brother, James, joined the family.

Terry graduated from Odessa High School in 1956. He then continued his education attending Texas Tech, graduating in 1961.

While at Texas Tech, he sensed God’s leading and His call on his life to the ministry. To prepare for a life of serving his Lord he moved to Fort Worth, TX where he attended Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.

Shortly after moving to the Dallas-Fort Worth area he met the love of his life, Cecile Marie Leonard and in little over a year they were married on June 1, 1963. The Lord blessed them with 56 years as husband and wife.

Upon completing seminary in May, 1965 he and his family headed to the Northwest where they would spend the next 28 years pastoring churches. The first stop was Grant Pass, OR at First Southern Baptist Church. After a four year ministry in Grants Pass he accepted the call to Stewart-Lenox Baptist Church in Klamath Falls, OR. He served as Pastor for 5 years in Klamath Falls before accepting the call to Trinity Baptist Church in Moscow, ID where he experienced a very rich and rewarding ministry for 8 years. He was then called to Highlands Baptist Church in Reedsport, OR where he served for the next 11 years. While in Reedsport he was invited to join the Rotary Club and was an active member of Rotary for the rest of his life.

In the spring of 1993, he accepted the call to become pastor of First Baptist Church in Sun City where he experienced real joy in his 15 plus years with First Baptist and was able to experience his lifelong ministry dream of seeing new churches planted. In the 43 years of pastoral ministry, he led the churches he pastored to start approximately 20 new churches. Since his retirement in 2009, he continued to minister in leadership development on the Gila River Indian Reservation and also starting a new church in Sun City, Emmanuel Baptist Church of which he and Cecile are still members.

He was often heard to say “my most prized earthly possession is my FAMILY.” His family includes his wife, Cecile of 56 years; sons, Mark David and Wesley Eugene and his wife Melanie; and a daughter, Melissa Joy; grandsons, Brandon and his wife Danica, Brian and Bradley; and in these latter years the great-grandchildren, Layla and Camden were his source of joy and always brought a big smile to his face.

Services were held at the First Baptist Church of Sun City on January 18, 2020. Condolences may be shared at www.menkefuneralhome.com
