The following was read at the Call to the Public section of the Feb. 5 meeting of the Pinal County Board of Supervisors:
Mr. chairman and members, I speak again in the spirit of truth, transparency and accountability.
We’re living in a bizarre time and place where words and actions have lost their meaning.
Where respect for the rule of law depends on political affiliation and an unquenchable thirst for power.
I want to emphasize that I clearly ally myself with speakers who have been to this Call to the Public in support of their views being reflected in the zoning code. It’s their right to exercise their freedom to speak in defense of a lifestyle of their choice, and I applaud members of this board respectfully trying to reflect the expressed will of your constituents.
In that same spirit I urge my fellow Americans, regardless of politics, to speak out now as our nation witnesses ongoing attempts at dismantling our constitutional republic’s institutions of self-governance.
Destroying trust in self-governance and replacing it with blind obedience to autocratic decrees dressed up as executive orders.
We’re witnessing a truly grotesque and surreal history unfolding before our eyes with — I say this as respectfully as I can — with a convicted criminal sitting in the White House granting pardons to other convicts who violently attacked law officers defending our nation’s Capital; sitting behind a presidential desk signing executive orders beyond his constitutional authority.
This nightmare should wake us all up. As for myself, I refuse to participate in the further destruction of our American dream and will continue to resist during Call to the Public and other venues.
I urge fellow Americans to join the resistance. Continue to respect the rule of law, stand up for the democratic principles that have made our nation the beacon of light for all who seek freedom from authoritarian rule either in Pinal County and throughout the nation.
Do not submit to self-serving deal makers who are desperately seeking to replace our constitutional republic with governance by a supreme autocratic ruling class. As Supervisor Mike Goodman said, stay engaged, yes. I intend to stay engaged and resist. Thank you, Mr. chairman.
