SRP continues to assist customers during pandemic
Low-income households have access to payment plan
Posted
SRP continues to help low-income households in Apache Junction that are behind on their payments due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The utility put in place a seven-month COVID-19 moratorium on power disconnects. At the same time, SRP helped customers to devise a payment plan and find access to utility assistance funds. However, some SRP customers still racked up a huge bill energy bill.
Starting this month, many customers began paying down past-due balances by getting on eight-month payment plans or customized payment arrangements. For customers on SRP’s price plan for low-income households – the Economy Price Plan -- the ban on disconnects will continue until early 2021. Certain EPP customers will be allowed to continue accruing a utility bill debt, through the end of the year.
Wildfire, formerly the Arizona Community Action Association, and SRP are working with community members who have accrued unsustainable debt during the pandemic by connecting them with agencies offering utility assistance through the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program, as well as other COVID-19 relief funds.
The goal is to help these residents receive assistance now, not just on their SRP bill, but also on rent and essential needs before the holidays. That is when funds run low as financial-support requests increase.
Since the beginning of October, nearly 3,000 SRP customers have received more than 3,000 assistance payments from SRP and its community partners totaling close to $2 million.
