Volunteers are need to pick up trash near Silly Mountain and Gold Canyon on Saturday, Dec. 7.
Sign-in 8:30-9 a.m. and attend a safety briefing at 9 a.m. The event staging location is 33.365408, -111.479482, across from Bashas’ in Gold Canyon. When you arrive, park along the right side of the dirt road and walk to two green Natural Restorations tents to sign-in, fill out a volunteer waiver or turn in paperwork.
Once the safety briefing and group photo are done, volunteers will spread out, according to a release.
“We will have a dedicated Dumpster provided by Arizona State Land Department so that we can get an accurate weight on the trash volunteers remove. Everyone will meet back at the sign-in area at 12 p.m. for a free volunteer raffle. Everyone will receive a free raffle ticket at sign-in; you must be present to win,” it states.
What to wear: Check the forecast before you head out so you can be prepared and dress accordingly, the release states.
“Please wear comfortable clothing and shoes that can get dirty. Wear long pants, thick-sole and closed-toe sturdy shoes for safety (no flip flops/sandals). Wear a hat, sunglasses for eye protection and sunscreen. It will likely be chilly in the morning, warming up as we get closer to noon and as you move around. Wearing layers you can take off will likely be helpful,” it states.
Bring a reusable water bottle or hydration backpack. There will be water coolers full of ice water to refill a bottle or pack.
“We will provide gloves, bags and trash grabbers. You are welcome to bring your own gloves and grabbers if you have them. If you would prefer to use a bucket, you’re welcome to bring a bucket for trash but you will need to walk it to the designated Dumpster each time it’s full, and having it in a bag will keep trash from blowing out of the Dumpster. Put masking tape with your name and number on any tools you bring,” the release states.
There will be light snacks for volunteers, including fruit. If you have any dietary restrictions, you may want to bring your own snack. You could bring a small cooler in your vehicle with beverages and snacks if you’d like, the release states.
There are no bathrooms on-site; the nearest bathroom is across the street from the staging area at the Bashas’ in Gold Canyon.
