Schuett: AJUSD bonds should be voted on for each individual project

Concerning “$15M bond election considered for school district” on the front page of the June 2024 issue: Bonds should be voted on for each individual project, not a group of projects.

Taxpayers may vote in favor of roof replacement, repairs or needed upgrades to physical infrastructure, but not to “keep up with the Joneses.”

Board member Cami Garcia said: “Our kids deserve to have everything all the other districts have in our surrounding area.”

First thought is: What other things do you want to spend money on? Why should inappropriate spending by another district influence the spending in AJUSD?

Second thought is: No, they don’t deserve everything ... etc.

Splitting the bonds between wants and needs would allow voters to help set priorities for district funding.
