Two staff from the Pinal County Public Defender's Office were recently recognized by Arizona Attorneys for Criminal Justice.

Paul Lovelis received the Tom Karas Indigent Defense Award, honoring Arizona's first federal public defender.

The award is presented to a member or organization for exceptional service to the indigent defense community in Arizona.

“Paul's many years of service, commitment and dedication to improving the plight of justice-involved individuals and supporting excellence in defense representation in Pima and Pinal counties have earned him this well-deserved recognition,” according to a press release.

Kevin Heade received the Larry Hammond Leadership Award recognizing outstanding leadership in criminal defense.

“Kevin is a leader among defense professionals in protecting the individual rights guaranteed to all people by the Arizona and U.S. constitutions, resisting efforts to curtail such rights and promoting justice,” the release continued.
