The Northern Pinal County Democratic Club meets at 6 p.m. Monday, Jan. 20, at the Mountain View Lutheran Church, 2122 S. Goldfield Road in Apache Junction.

There will be two quest speakers: Bill Mundell, a candidate for the Arizona Corporation Commission; and Franny Sharpe, from the Arizona Democratic Party, talking on the process for redistricting to take place shortly after the 2020 Census, according to a release.

Mr. Mundell began his career in private practice in Chandler. He was presiding judge of the Chandler Municipal Court from 1980 to 1986, when he won election to the Arizona House of Representatives; he left the House in 1992. Gov. Jane Dee Hull (R) appointed Mr. Mundell to fill a vacancy on the Arizona Corporation Commission in 1999. He won election to a full term in 2000 and to a second full term in 2004. He was prevented from running for re-election in 2008 due to term limits, which limit corporation commissioners to two consecutive terms, according to the release

Upon his departure from the commission in 2009, Gov. Brewer appointed Mr. Mundell as the director of the Registrar of Contractors. He served in that position until 2015.

Ms. Sharpe is the deputy political director of the Arizona Democratic Party. In 2021 Arizona will go through the redistricting process again based on the results of the 2020 Census, according to the release.

The Arizona process is run by a non-partisan commission that holds community hearings and it is critical that citizens become involved with the process to ensure a fair distribution of voters throughout the state. It is anticipated that Arizona will gain a U.S. House seat, which will most likely affect every current district. Ms. Sharpe will share what we can do as citizens to ensure the process is fair and represents our communities, according to the release.

"We invite all that are interested in hearing about these topics. The Northern Pinal County Democrats meet every month on the third Monday of each month to talk about issues affecting our community and how to get involved in solutions that reflect our values," the release states. "We ask that you bring a donation of non-perishable food, clothing or toiletries for the church donation box which helps support local homeless folks in our community."
