Posted

The food pantry for March 25 at Apache Junction High School has been cancelled due to the recent closures of schools, but a meal will be available daily March 23-27 for ages 18 and under.

Apache Junction Unified School District Director of Food Services Karen Warhus and her team are to begin providing a sack meal for students weekdays during the closures.

Go to "Marks: School district offering curbside meal service for kids during outbreak."

AJUSD curbside meal service is 10-11:30 a.m. at AJHS, 2525 S. Ironwood Drive. Remember:

• Free meals will be served for any child 18 or under
• District enrollment is not required
• Children must be present

• Meals should be consumed at home or off site
• A breakfast and lunch will be served during each meal period

Read more about the curbside meal service at the "Free food for children" subhead in the story "Paying employees during closure approved by Apache Junction Unified School District Governing Board."

Mobile school market

AJUSD’s Food Services Department has partnered with the United Food Bank to provide a mobile school market at the AJHS cafeteria.

Market dates are generally 2-4 p.m. (limited to supplies on hand). The next scheduled date is May 20. Mobile pantry patrons are asked to bring their own bags, box or cart to wheel out their supplies, according to a release.

Visitors should park in the north parking lot and enter through the patio. Food will include prepackaged shelf stable items, fresh produce, bread and other seasonal items. The following information will be asked at sign in: name, address, number of persons in the household, birth date.

For additional information, call Karen Warhus, food services director for AJUSD, at 480-982-1110 ext. 2201 or email kwarhus@goaj.org. The institution is an equal opportunity employer.
