Navy ROTC students heading to regional academic competition

Apache Junction High School students in the Naval Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps will travel March 6-8 to Reedley, California, for a regional academic competition.

The trip was approved as part of a consent agenda at a recent meeting of the Apache Junction Unified School District Governing Board.

The Apache Junction High School NJROTC Academic Team has qualified to compete in the Area 11 Academic Brain Brawl championships at Reedley High School, U.S. Navy Lt. Cmdr. (Ret.) Gary Lock said in a letter to the Governing Board.

“It is with great enthusiasm that I officially request permission to escort five cadets to this competition,” he wrote. “A strong showing here would enable us to qualify for the Brain Brawl nationals in April 2020.”

The cost of the trip is $150. Transportation for the five students and one adult will be by AJUSD van, Lt. Cmdr. Lock wrote in a field trip request form.
