More than $3 million in scholarship monies are being distributed to 54 graduating Prospectors at Apache Junction High School, 2525 S. Ironwood Drive.

There are 234 students in the class of 2020, according to a release.

Arizona State, Northern Arizona, the University of Arizona, Grand Canyon University as well as private universities are providing athletic and academic scholarships, the release states.

Local organizations such as the Gold Canyon Lions Club, Rotary, Moose Lodge, Elks Lodge, American Legion and American Legion Auxiliary provided scholarships.

Local support from the Roadhaven community, the Lost Dutchman Marathon and the Madalyn Rollins/Telephone Pioneers also contributed funds to help offset the cost of college tuition for several young men and women from the high school, the release states.

“We often say that at Apache Junction High School we mine human potential,” Dr. Chris Lineberry, principal of AJHS, said in the release. “We are a small school, but we produce big results. It has been a particularly tough year on our students, particularly the class of 2020, but working through these tough times will make them uniquely strong. I have high hopes for each and every one of them.”

AJHS emphasizes a well-rounded education where academics, sports and extracurricular activities allow students to grow scholastically, physically and emotionally, the release states.

Registration for all new students who wish to enroll in Apache Junction Unified School District schools is being accepted online at all school locations. For more information about AJUSD or its schools or departments, go to ajusd.org.
