Name: Daniel J. Greene

Age: 50

Town/neighborhood: Apache Junction

When and why I moved here: I retired from the military after 21 years and moved from New York to be with family.

What I like most about living here: The community’s camaraderie and beautiful Superstition Mountains.

What I do: VFW Post No. 7968 commander and District 10 commander for the VFW. Retired U.S. Army. Currently also work for University of Phoenix.

What he likes most about what he does: Daniel gives back to veterans and their families every day. Whether it’s cooking dinner, finding resources to help veterans, he continues to build and grow VFW Post No. 7968. Daniel will always help and give back to the community.

Changes I’d like to see in this area: More support for our local veterans and to have a louder voice for veterans in our community, which is happening quickly thank to Mayor Jeff Serdy and the city’s support.

Favorite community cause and why: Currently active in recruiting local business, nonprofits, legions and other VFWs so we can build and install the largest flag in the state at Flat Iron Park. Daniel is a natural born leader and is always thinking outside the box and coming up with new and exciting ideas to make VFW Post No. 7968 the best it can possibly be.

His family: Daniel has four children — Joshua, Jenna, Carynne and Camryn — and is a dedicated father to his children. Two currently live with him — Carynne, 21, who is finishing up her BA and pursuing a career as a physician’s assistant; and Camryn, 12, who attends Cactus Canyon Junior High School.

My interests and hobbies: Loves to go riding with his son in Bulldog Canyon on his side-by-side.

People who inspired me (and how): Mother, Jean Greene; she raised four children on her own and made them the success they are today.

My guiding philosophy: One team…one fight.
