The Art of the Holidays — a children’s art contest at Superstition Mountain Museum — is 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 16, on the patio of the museum and gift shop at 4087 E. Apache Trail (State Route 88) in Apache Junction.
Students from the Apache Junction School District are being invited to participate by the district’s art teachers. There are three levels: first-fifth, sixth-eighth and ninth-12th grades, according to a release.
Young artists are being asked to include some part of the museum in their paintings, along with their concept of a holiday theme.
The finished paintings will be on display all day. Visitors can view them and then vote for their favorite paintings by purchasing tickets the day of the event and placing them in the container by their favorite artworks. Votes will be tallied 4-5 p.m. and at 5 p.m. the first and second place winners in each category will be announced in the amphitheater. There will be cash prizes in each category, the release states.
As is the annual tradition, the museum grounds will be decked out for the holidays.
“Come on out and support our budding local DeGrazias and O’Keeffes and enjoy a fun day at the museum,” the release states.
