Hassenger: Central Arizona College charged son despite promising free tuition

Posted

The Central Arizona College campuses offered free tuition to Pinal County residents and even had an article in your Apache Junction Independent regarding the offer.

My son, a 20-year resident of Apache Junction and graduate of Apache Junction High School, signed up for the free tuition classes. He submitted all necessary paperwork, identification and high school transcripts.

He took a class and after the fact without any notice he was charged almost $300 for a class he was told would be free tuition.

He only found out there was an outstanding fee and hold against him when he attempted to sign up for another class.

He appealed but the Superstition Campus said too late, too bad -- pay.

These bait-and-switch tactics are a terrible way to treat longstanding residents and are unreasonable. I myself have lived here 48 years and took classes at CAC without issue. Why harass my son?
