Harshman: AJPD Officer Kellogg identifies theft suspect from Facebook post

Posted

Apache Junction Police Department’s 2019 Officer of The Year may be in the running to hold on to that title for an additional year.

Recently, Officer Cameron Kellogg observed a post on a popular Facebook page, Apache Junction Discussion and Chat. The post contained a picture and a video of a man stealing a package from the front porch of a home in the 2000 block of South San Marcos.

Officer Kellogg recognized the suspect in the video and made contact with him at his residence. He was able to retrieve the stolen items that were in the package and return them to the owner. As for the suspect, Officer Kellogg charged him with theft.

In September 2019, Officer Kellogg waded out into fast-moving water to rescue a man who had been swept away by a flash flood. That dramatic rescue was recorded on Officer Kellogg’s body camera and the footage has been shown around the world.

Whether he is saving a drowning man from a flash flood or simply following up on a Facebook post, Officer Kellogg continues to set himself apart with his positive attitude and his willingness to go the extra mile for the citizens of Apache Junction.

Don’t call him a hero though; at least not his face. He’ll tell you it’s just part of the job, and that he doesn’t feel like a hero.

Editor's note: Cpl. Marshall Harshman is AJPD's community and media liaison officer.
