Fesler-Butts: Vote no on Propositions 432, 433

Another off-year bond, tax increase or override for us to vote on again. I am all in favor for the children to have the best in education and educational opportunities and I am for educators to receive real pay but not this way.

We have lived here since May '01 and seems like almost every other year, usually in off-election years, another fake push for the "children" vote.

Why? There is a systemic problem in Apache Junction. Partially it has to do with our Apache Junction Unified School District Board.

The old board voted to have the soon-to-be convicted Chad Wilson be the superintendent of AJUSD until his activities were discovered. He was in position at a very high cost to AJ taxpayers for some seven years, was it? And during that whole time no one noticed the activity? Where was our school board during these times? I say this because once again, as with every other time a bond, override or tax increase for the schools --- or should I say "the children" --- came up, the entire AJUSD supported the measures. So why should we trust them this time?

We have Dr. Anderson now as the superintendent, who is all for these propositions, and who like Dr. Wilson before her, will not be affected by these propositions, does not live in Apache Junction, heck neither of these two people even live in Pinal County. So, why not endorse tax increases on a public that they will not feel? Their children never attended a school in Pinal County but they are willing to hurt the children and the schools in our area through these propositions.

Oh yeah, let us not forget the principals of AJ High School. The present principal lives in either Chandler or Gilbert, where his children attend school. So he will not be affected by any loss of income to pay for these propositions.

In case you may not know it, here are a few things that should also be considered in voting no on Propositions 432 and 433: The superintendents by some law are required to have PhDs. But I believe it does not have to be a PhD in education but that is who we have hired and who immediately shoots for bonds, tax increases or overrides every year. Second, these people are paid over $100,000 per year.

These people are also given a very generous allowance for things like their vehicles for one thing. Being teachers they are also members of the teachers' union and as with all unions they want more money for everyone, especially their bosses (locally and nationally) and their political causes. Why can we not hire a superintendent who has a PhD in business? Someone who might actually know how handle and manage a budget? Then possibly we could find someone with a PhD that at least lives and pay taxes in Pinal County.

I urge you to vote no to Propositions 432 and 433.
