Cactus Canyon Junior High School had success at the 19th Annual Central Arizona College Middle School Mathematics Contest held Nov. 8.

Competing against schools across the region, the CCJH math team earned two prestigious awards:

• Second place overall school award
• Second place team division (Team: Angie Rojas Bedolla and Emily Mitchell)

“The contest, which tested students on topics ranging from algebra to advanced problem-solving, was a fantastic opportunity for students to demonstrate their mathematical skills in a collaborative and competitive environment,” according to a release.

Principal Russell Paperman of Cactus Canyon Junior High commended the team’s efforts.

“We couldn’t be prouder of our math team. Their hard work, love for learning and competitive spirit are evident in these fantastic results. This amazing achievement puts a spotlight on the strength of our academic programs and the incredible talent of our students,” Paperman said.

The CCJH math team included the following students: Masen Dvory, Sergio Garcia, Daniel Juarez Diaz, Gordon McQuarrie, Russell Williamson, Orion Zaatta, Tatum Denogean, Jordan Kronemeyer, Emily Mitchell, Stacy Ventura Guerrero, Ethan McQuarrie, Jayden Simonson and Angie Rojas Bedolla.

Math team coaches Savannah Romero and Kathleen Donlan were ecstatic about the results, but not surprised.

Coach Kathleen Donlan said, “The students worked so hard to prepare and were very confident going into the competition. We’re so proud of all they have accomplished.”

The Central Arizona College contest is a longstanding tradition that brings students together from across the region to celebrate their passion for math.
