Barro’s Pizza combats Arizona hunger with annual event

Posted

Barro’s Pizza is doing its part in the fight against hunger in Arizona with its annual Doran Barro Holiday Hunger Fight, which will benefit St. Mary’s Food Bank.

The event will be Tuesday, Dec. 3 and will involve the restaurant donating all its proceeds from the day across its 43 locations to help those in Arizona facing hard times during the holidays, according to a press release.  There is a Barro's Pizza at 10861 E. Baseline Road in Mesa.

“The community has really gotten behind this event every year, and we hope they will do the same this year by ordering or dining in at one of our restaurants on Dec. 3,” Gina Barro, co-owner of Barro’s Pizza, said in a prepared statement.

“Barro’s makes it a priority to help in the community however we can, and it’s especially important over the holidays to make sure no one goes hungry. We are committed to helping to end hunger in Arizona and will continue to dedicate the first Tuesday in Dec. every year to help this cause.”

Last year, Barro’s Pizza raised a total of $255,141 for St Mary’s, making this the highest donation from the annual event. Every dollar donated equates to seven meals, so this last year’s donation provided 1,785,987 meals during the holiday season to Arizona’s hungry, a release claims.

Over the last seven years, $1,206,257 was raised which equals almost 8.5 million meals. Over the years, the Doran Barro Holiday Hunger Fight has become St. Mary’s largest cause-marketing effort of the year.

“We are so very grateful to the Barro Family for their continued support each year,” St. Mary’s President and CEO Tom Kertis said in a prepared statement.

“We truly couldn’t do what we do without the generosity and support of companies like Barro’s Pizza and their loyal customers. We are so very appreciative for your continued support of our community.”
