Apache Junction lists traffic, road advisories for weekend events

In less than two weeks, the most popular signature special event series to take place in Apache Junction will commence, attracting thousands of visitors, residents and participants alike.

Starting with an iconic run through the shadows of the Superstition Mountains on Sunday, Feb. 16, the 24th annual Lost Dutchman Marathon includes a full 26.2-mile marathon, a half marathon, 10K race and an 8K trail run, according to a release.

The marathon begins near the Peralta Trailhead, runs throughout Gold Canyon then winds its way into Apache Junction along scenic back roads to the finish line in Prospector Park. The shorter races begin and end in Prospector Park.

Some areas along the race route may impact parking, traffic and road access. Residents, visitors and businesses are advised of these restrictions and asked to drive cautiously to ensure the safety of participants and spectators.

The following weekend, Feb. 21-23, the annual Lost Dutchman Days will kick off, featuring a series of rodeo events, carnival rides and a Lost Dutchman Days Parade to take place at 9 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 22.

The parade is a free event and the route runs on Apache Trail between Idaho and Ironwood roads. This parade allows spectators to line up on both sides of the route and residents, visitors and businesses are advised of the road closure during this time.
