Apache Junction food bank has 24/7 ‘give ‘n go’ donation drop

Posted

Thanks to volunteer John Young, the Superstition Community Food Bank now has a convenient drop-off to expedite food donations.

Young built the drop-off to resemble a little orange house with a door where donors can put food donations anytime, day or night, according to a release.

The food bank is at the northeast corner of Idaho Road and Superstition Boulevard at 575 N. Idaho Road in Apache Junction.

Executive Director Myra Garcia praised Young’s initiative “in giving us another way to make food donations quick and easy for everyone. The give ’n go box is located right outside on our entrance patio so people can drive up, deposit non-perishable food donations 24/7, and be on their way in seconds. This will be especially helpful during the upcoming holiday season.”

Most-wanted give ’n go food items include canned fish and meats, beans, boxed meals, rice, peanut butter and jelly, cereal, soups, canned fruits and vegetables, canned milk, baby food and toiletries.

During October, the food bank is looking for holiday-related items, such as canned green beans, fried onions, mushroom soup, pumpkin, cranberry sauce, and boxed stuffing.

Do not donate any opened packages, homemade foods, dented cans, glass containers or food with an expired date.

Apache Junction Reach Out Inc., doing business as Superstition Community Food Bank, is a 501(c)(3) organization that works with volunteers and partners to provide food services to qualified individuals and families in East Valley communities with kindness, respect and dignity, the release states.
