Antonio: Neighbor won't stop displaying US flag upside down

Posted

My father is a World War II veteran and the most decorated veteran of the county where we lived in Georgia. His two brothers also served in World War II.

I am a longtime resident of Gold Canyon and a Vietnam veteran.

As a family we have always respected our country, the American flag and what both represent. For several months the resident at the 8700 block of Jumping Cholla Drive in the Mountain Brook community in Gold Canyon has displayed the American flag upside down in his front yard. He has ignored numerous request from various neighbors to display the flag properly.

There are other ways to express a political opinion without disrespecting the flag, the country it represents, our way of life it represents and the veterans that defend our way of life.

It is not against the law to display the flag in that manner, but it is unnecessarily disrespectful to those that made the ultimate sacrifice, those who were prisoners of war, those who were wounded, those who continue to carry mental scars, and all other veterans and those continuing to serve.

Please help in any way possible to see that the American flag is properly and respectfully displayed in this homeowners yard. Thank you.
