The Prospectors girls’ basketball team (2-19) faced the Coronado Dons (6-14) on Senior Night, Jan. 24. The Prospectors were celebrating Gloria Valenzuela, Sophia Tolenhio and Heather Cornwell as this was their final game played at their home stadium.

The Dons won the tipoff, and proceeded to have a great offensive quarter, notching 18 points against the Prospectors defense. This would seem to be a common theme throughout the game. The first quarter concluded with a commanding 18-7 lead for the Dons.

The second quarter moved quickly. Both teams were quick to the hoop and few penalties were made. The Prospectors were able to get moving a bit more offensively, but the Dons never lost momentum as they took a 31-17 lead into halftime.

Both teams came out of the locker rooms and another fast-paced quarter took place as the Dons were able to notch an astounding 22 points in the quarter alone thanks to some phenomenal ball movement in the passing game. The Prospectors had a great offensive quarter as well, mostly led by Shooting Guard Allie Pride as she was seemingly unable to miss for the entire quarter, hitting from deep and in the paint. The Dons extended their lead to 53-32.

The fourth quarter was dominated by Pride as if she was single handedly trying to mount a comeback. Unfortunately, the comeback fell short despite the Dons only putting up three points. Coronado spoiled the Senior Night celebration, winning 56-40.
