The economic future of Pinal County and our communities are dependent on the continuation of the advanced manufacturing tax credits for domestic manufacturers of battery components and related purchasing incentives utilized by companies such as LG Energy Solution and Lucid Motors. These companies are infusing not millions — but billions of dollars into the Arizona economy, with additional investments planned.
For LG this means $5.5 billion and 2,800 jobs in their first phase alone for their cylindrical battery plant in Queen Creek. Lucid Motors has made a capital investment of $2 billion and created 2,500 jobs in Casa Grande. Total investments in the surrounding areas of these two communities are as high as $10 billion and create over 15,000 jobs. Job creation has been a top priority for the county for years, bringing employment opportunities closer to residents to enhance quality of life.
Attracting these kinds of employers is a federal, state and local partnership to ensure continued growth, competitiveness and shared prosperity. In Arizona, these tax credits have generated $58 billion in existing, potential and announced investment along with 69,000 jobs. These credits are working and triggering the necessary investments to strengthen national security and ensure production happens here in the United States.
The economics of these credits work — the benefits far outweigh the costs. This is about smart economic development planning and creating Arizona’s future workforce. We appreciate the investment in Arizona that has been made by these companies. We call on Congress to ensure the continued advanced manufacturing tax credits for domestic manufacturers of battery components and related purchasing incentives.
