Adopt-A-Street section honors memory of Apache Junction Officer Gabriel Facio

Posted

The city of Apache Junction has a new Adopt-A-Street volunteer organization — the Apache Junction Police Department.

AJPD has adopted Superstition Boulevard between Apache Trail (State Route 88) and Tomahawk Road as a heartfelt tribute to Officer Gabriel Facio.

Facio, 46, a three-year veteran on the force, died June 8 from injuries suffered while answering a June 2 radio call about a driver waving a gun in what was described as a threatening manner. He is the first Apache Junction police officer to be killed in the line of duty.

“This stretch of roadway will serve as a lasting reminder of Officer Facio’s dedication, courage, and selfless commitment. His legacy will live on as we continue to foster peace, justice, and unity in Apache Junction,” a release states.
