The Apache Junction Unified School District has an agreement to place students who require special education and gifted services with the Gilbert Unified School District’s educational programs.

The AJUSD Governing Board approved the agreement at a meeting Nov. 25.

Gilbert Unified has a capacity for a student who requires both special education and gifted services, according to the agreement.

AJUSD is to compensate Gilbert Unified for the services provided under the agreement.

The cost breakdown for $67,577 for student No. 28845089 includes $1,320 for braille, $27,000 for a full-time paraprofessional, $1,890 for speech language services, $13,781 for a teacher of the visually impaired and $8,442 for a special education teacher.

“The educational program provided by Gilbert shall include a curriculum approved by the Arizona Department of Education and a gifted program. The program shall include the implementation of visually impaired student(s) individual education programs and gifted education in accordance with Gilbert’s policies,” the agreement states.
