Five candidates for two Apache Junction Unified School District No. 43 seats have filed signatures to be on the ballot, according to the Pinal County Superintendent’s Office.

In the approaching Nov. 8 mid-term elections, AJUSD’s governing board has two seats open. Board members Chelsea Connolly and Dena Kimble’s terms are coming to an end; both were elected in 2018.

According to the Pinal County Superintendent’s Office, the candidates and the number of signatures filed were:

  • Chelsea Connolly, 349.
  • Valerie Fleming, 226.
  • Barbara Kanzler, 220.
  • Dena Kimble, 298.
  • Gail Ross, 255.

Immediately following the candidate filing period, candidates’ filing for candidacy — qualifications, nomination papers, petitions, etc. — can be challenged with the Pinal County Superior Court. The 10-day challenge period for the 2022 School Governing Board Elections is July 12, 2022 to 5 p.m. on July 25, 2022, according to the Pinal County Superintendent’s Office.

The voter registration deadline for the Nov. 8 election is Oct. 10. The early voting period is Oct. 12-Nov. 4, according to the Pinal County Elections Department.
